Rules for the Typography of Houston Photo Contest



Begin Date: September 1, 2015
End Date: September 30, 2015
Winners Announced: November 3, 2015

Contest goal: to capture images of creative typography around Houston

Prizes: 11x17 Typography of Houston Poster (Framed) and a $20 art store gift card.

*Note: Extra large images may be resized to fit web format if chosen to be featured on this blog.

  • What the photograph says:
  • Address (if relevant) of photograph: 
  • Name of designer (if relevant and available):
  • Name of each photograph: 
  • Type of camera used: 
  • I (name here) certify that this is an image that I took on my own and did not steal from any other artist, photographer, graphic designer, or other person. If chosen, I give permission for Grace Sivils, Graceful by Design, and/or Typography of Houston to publish my photo. 
Please note that Grace Sivils, Graceful by Design, and Typography of Houston will not publish your information without your consent and will never give out or sell your information. If your photographs are chosen for the top ten, you will be notified before they are featured on the Typography of Houston blog and Graceful by Design Facebook page or any other publication. 

Other rules:
Up to three images per person
Do not steal someone else’s work
No obscenity allowed
Murals are allowed but we do not promote illegal graffiti
Your own graphic design or business’ typography is allowed

F.A.Q.
Do I have to be a professional photographer or designer to submit an image?
  • No! If you have a camera, you can compete!
Does the typography have to be found in Houston or can I take a picture in Humble, Pasadena, Tomball, Spring, Cypress, or some other greater Houston area?
  • Houston is made up of lots of local areas. Go ahead and take a picture in Greater Houston, if that’s what you feel like represents Houston to you.
Does it have to be of a sign or advertisement? 
  • No, it could be of a business card (if you have permission to feature their artwork), a mural, whatever! As long as there is typography and it is located in Houston. 
I know this really cool/famous spot in Houston. Does it have to be a picture I took?
  • Yes, it has to be an image you took yourself. 
Can anyone compete?

  • Yes! Anyone can compete.

Coming soon... Typography of Houston Photo Contest!


Heads up Houston! A photography contest is coming your way! 

More details will be released soon.

What is the contest?
Houston is home to some amazing examples of typography around the city. This blog is dedicated to photographing and showing off those examples. The contest is to find other local examples of typography. 

Can anyone compete?
Sure! If you have a camera and want to submit a photo, you can!

Are there prizes?
Yes! There will be one winner selected from the submissions and the top ten will be featured on the blog. More prize information will be announced later.

Do I have to pay a fee to compete?
No! It is completely free to participate!

Can the photograph be of my own business or typography?
Sure! The key is to show off local typography to Houston.

Can the photo feature graffiti?
Yes. Note: I am not encouraging any illegal activity but if there are some local murals you want to show off, be my guest!
